THE CHAMPIONS ARE KOGARAH GIRLS!

Recently, the two Junior Girls Volleyball teams went into battle in the Zone Volleyball Finals, against the best of the other schools. The site for this encounter was a level area at Beverly Hills Girls High School, and the weather on this day was pouring rain, which marred our preparations for the ensuing contest by preventing the girls from perfecting their skirmish strategies by puddles and flowing streams.

Eager to face the foe, our valiant girls arrived at 9.30 am, only to be told our opponents had not arrived. Undaunted, our girls prepared for combat by frequent raids on the School canteen, in which they acquired foods in case their eventual confrontations were to be lengthy.

Rousing battle cries were sung by our brave girls, and these, along with the various dances -- or was it cheer-leading routines? – surely prevented those who could behold this awesome spectacle from concentrating on their personal preparations for the climax of the day.

Finally, a little after 2.00 pm, our Junior Girls faced their opponents in the school gym. Both teams were nervous initially, and our girls lost the first set. Then their true qualities of determination and finely honed skills showed forth, as they clearly won the deciding two sets and so gained the victory. The battle field became a picture of joy and dancing as they celebrated their great victory.

But, then there was to be the Final match for our Junior A team, that had been undefeated throughout the entire competition. Could they win, or, would there be a massive upset, and an inglorious defeat be their fate?

Encouraged by the deafening support of the Kogarah High Girls on the side lines, our Junior A team faced their foes. However, the excellent skills of our girls prevailed, as the enemy crumpled quickly, and were vanquished in two straight sets. Ah, the jubilation that ensued!!! Screams of delight filled the air, as euphoric supporters joined in the merriment on the battle field.

Never, in the Volleyball History of Kogarah High has so glorious a victory been so completely won by both Junior teams. And, never will those who that day contested these battles, ever forget these memorable moments! Our congratulations to them all!
