Computing

Kogarah High School is well equipped with computing technology. Three computing labs and the library are equipped with Pentium 4 PCs running Windows XP applications. All computers are linked to the school’s Ethernet network and all students and staff have individual logins that allow them to save the work to the school’s Novell 6 server.  All computers have access to a very fast broadband internet connection (ISDN).  The new wireless network allows students using notebook computers in classrooms to connect to the school network and the internet.

The use of computers is taught throughout all subjects and in all years. Specific computing courses studied include : Computing Studies in years 9 and 10 and Information Processes and Technology and Photography, Video and Digital Imaging for year 11 and 12 students taking the HSC

In years 7 And 8 computing is integrated into all subjects.  Students learn a variety of essential skills in computing and information technology.

In years 9 and 10 the Information and Software Technology course is offered as an elective.  This course allows students a broad experience of studies in computing theory and practical work using a project based approach.  Students undertake a range of projects in which they solve problems and put theoretical knowledge into practice.

In years 11 and 12 students may elect Information Processes and Technology.  Information Processes and Technology covers topics such as project management, database design, communications technology and multimedia.
