About HSIE

The HSIE faculty at Kogarah High Schools offers a wide range of courses across the school curriculum. The faculty promotes student centred and independent learning through group work and individual research in a supportive and caring environment.

The use of appropriate technology, the development of problem solving skills and extra-curricular activities including state and national competitions are encouraged.

Skill development is a priority with a strong emphasis on literacy, numeracy and thinking skills. Our programs contain explicit teaching of a variety of strategies to facilitate this development both formally and informally.

Our aim also is to highlight the need to recognize intellectual quality as central to our pedagogy. Within all of the HSIE courses we aim to link classroom practice with improved student outcomes.

Extending our Students

We offer students many extra curricular opportunities, including:

HSC Lecture Days for all our senior subjects

Geography Competition

History Competition

Australian Financial Literacy Assessment Competition

Participation in the Australian Stock Exchange Game

Excursions to enrich and assist the learning which takes place in the classroom.
