Kogarah High School P & C Association
Minutes of meeting held Monday 06th August 2007 at 7pm
Attendance:
Fred Carosi, Violet Roumeliotis, Ieuen Redlich, Ingrid Redlich, Annette Schofield, Denise Butcher, Terry Brennan
Apologies:
Janice Killey – move guest speaker to next meeting.
Matters Arising:
Deck almost completed. Furniture ordered.
Could be ready by week 8.
Switchboard – could increase by 2 or 3 lines.
Principals Report:
Numbers of students for 2008, estimated at 763 plus staff, including 80 IEC students. Need for selection criteria for students outside area as limit is close, this would also mean an increase in staff.
Extra PDHPE head teacher due to increased numbers and second Deputy Principal.
SNAP results – Second highest improvement in Georges River district for numeracy.
Split into males (3rd highest improvement in the region) and females (highest improvement in the region in 12 months).
Testing year 9 SNAP and ELLA for the first time in May 2008.
Annual School Report 2006 presented to P & C, will be handed to students or mailed to household.
Kitchen renovation progressing – should be completed by end of term. Official opening ceremony to be advised.
Parent/teacher night years 7 – 9 reports mailed – attendance good. Years 10 – 12 collected reports at meeting – attendance numbers lower.
Correspondence:
P & C 2007 end of year celebration materials – magazine “Next” and pamphlet “Alcohol: celebrations and supply – information for parents”.
Family Planning NSW – “General Catalogue 2007”.
Angelart – fundraiser calendars.
General Business:
School policy regarding students caught smoking -
First offence – lectured, given pamphlets and parents advised
Second office – suspended.
Photographic and Digital Media Elective – not a lot of practical work with cameras – Principal to check.
Discussion about cleanliness of public toilets. Information from students about soap dispensers not being in working order to be checked.
Access to Library limited – need library card to borrow a book. This can be organized without photo.
Parents as student scheme – not at Kogarah High School (to be discussed by staff and P & C. May be possible during Education Week 2008.
Public Holiday Friday 7th September, 2007 for Sydney – APEC Meeting.
Next Meeting:
Monday 3rd September at 7pm. Guest speaker, Janice Killey on supporting children going through adolescence.
