Kogarah High School P & C Association

Minutes of meeting held Monday 3rd September 2007 at 7pm

Attendance:

Fred Carosi, Violet Roumeliotis, Ieuen Redlich, Ingrid Redlich, Denise Butcher, Terry Brennan, Hana Nasreddine

Minutes of previous meeting held on 06th August, 2007 carried.

Apologies: 

 Nil

Matters Arising:

Suggestion made to compile list of parents email addresses so P & C minutes can be sent to parents.

Resend message in different languages to parents about P & C to increase attendance.

New Kitchen ready in 4 – 5 weeks.

2 more phone lines can be obtained for the school. Ability to leave message on individual teacher’s extensions.

Soap dispensers in toilets to be fitted – waiting on wall brackets.  Within next 6 months, plan to refurbish another toilet block.

Rostered office staff hours from 8.15 a.m. to accommodate parents’ calls.

Achieving new and more mature relations with age mates of both sexes.

Deciding on a lifestyle.

Choosing a set of values – a morality by which to live their lives.

  1. Parents need to be aware that young people are usually not able to predict or easily “control” their own feelings and emotions during this changeable period.
  2. Listen to your adolescents and respect their opinion.
  3. Your child can hold a different opinion than yours.
  4. Never ridicule them.
  5. Listen in a non-judgmental way.
  6. While it’s important to allow your children “space” as they come to terms with physical and emotional changes they are encountering almost every day, this does not mean disappearing and leaving your children to sort things out alone.
  7. Work to keep communication channels open.
